THE LEVONS

Shoreditch

I walked the fire escape to where you did sit
Until the sun did break and abandon us you hid
Peering down below, dragged to the edge
I did fall, I’m sure I did fall.

My breath would fade
I faced him face to face

Sceptics and doubters jeered us and hissed
Through their peering glass doors they gather up their list
Sneering out aloud, bound by this arrest
They did fail, how I wished they would fail

My breath would fade
I faced him face to face

I stared him down, I looked him in the eyes
Then once or twice, for a time, he could not decide
How to pressure me, how to knock me down
I had more in me, I would stand, I would stay, and I would fight

Thinking and planning to where I would rest
Don’t ask why I’m hiding, but where it would be best
Dig myself a grave, and backfill this mess
You did know, I’m sure you must have known

My breath would fade
I faced him face to face

I stared him down, I looked him in the eyes
Then once or twice, for a time, he could not decide
How to pressure me, how to knock me down
How to hold my own, how to not lie down
I will not look back, I will struggle through,
When this fucked up lie then starts becoming truth
Never trade it in, Never shy away
I had more in me, I would stand, I would stay, and I would fight
